“I want to solemnly state here that the controversies must stop when the entire nation pays tribute to the dead,” she said at a press conference. The unprecedented attacks by the Palestinian Islamist movement in Israel have resulted in the deaths of over 1160 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli data. Forty-two of these victims held French nationality.

One of the reasons for this is the movement’s refusal to label Hamas as a *“terrorist”* group. *“Like all parties, we were invited to this tribute by the President of the Republic,”* emphasized Mathilde Panot on Tuesday. Presided by Emmanuel Macron, the tribute will be held exactly four months after the assault by the Palestinian Islamist movement.

During another press briefing on Tuesday, Éric Coquerel (LFI) expressed his *“irritation”* about this *“controversy”* targeting the “Insoumis,” regretting that it *“obscures”* the recent visit by a delegation of left-wing elected officials to the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Palestinian territory. Regarding the situation in Gaza, *“if nothing is done within this month, the genocidal risk (against the Palestinians) will become an undeniable reality,”* declared the “insoumis” deputy. *“We are not making Hamas disappear, we are making a people disappear,”* he stated.
