The French gas bill is set to experience a new increase in July, this time due to a rise in the distribution network tariff announced by the Energy Regulatory Commission (Cre) and the network operator GRDF on Friday. The network usage tariff (known as “ATRD”) will increase by an average of 27.5% on July 1, according to a decision by Cre for the next four years.
The impact on residential consumer bills will amount to +5.5%, or +7.30 euros including tax per month for an average heating customer as presented in the monthly Gas Sales Benchmark Price (PRVG) published by Cre, as estimated by the energy regulator. It will be +10.4%, which is +2.20 euros including tax per month on the total bill for an average customer using hot water/cooking as presented in the PRVG.
According to GRDF, the announced increase is largely due to carry-over effects from the uncertainties of the previous period, during which costs rose. Over the past four years, “*the tariff remained stable and therefore did not cover all of the company’s costs*,” explained the group.
