Images posted on social media show her grappling with members of the security forces. Another candidate, Daouda Ndiaye, posted a message on social media claiming to have been *”brutalized”* by law enforcement and reported that some of his colleagues had been *”arrested”*. The Walf group announced on social media a *“definitive withdrawal of its license by the State”*. The announcement also raised concerns abroad.
It is the first time since 1963 that a presidential election by direct universal suffrage has been postponed in Senegal, a country that has never experienced a coup d’état, a rarity on the continent. President Sall cited the conflict that erupted between the Constitutional Council and the National Assembly after the definitive validation by the court of twenty candidacies and the elimination of several dozen others. Members of parliament are scheduled to meet on Monday to consider a bill to postpone the presidential election for six months, as learned by AFP from parliament. The text must be approved by 3/5 of the 165 deputies to be validated.
This debate is shaping up to be another highlight of the crisis, and the approval of the text does not seem assured.
